What are the most common motorcycle accidents?

Riding a motorcycle in California can be dangerous, but if you know how to watch out for some of the most common motorcycle accidents, you can drastically reduce your chances of being involved in a collision. RideApart.com details what some of the top accidents are and how you can avoid them.

One of the most dangerous situations involves motorcycle drivers taking corners too quickly, especially when the turn is blind. One of the worst moves you can make is to hit the brakes, since doing so can cause you to lose traction. It is best to slow down before turns, but if you find that you have taken one too fast, stay calm and ride it through as best as you can.

Intersections are an especially dangerous place for motorcycles. The driver of a passenger vehicle may not see you and turn right into you. Your awareness in this situation will be key. Realize that cars may turn because they do not see any vehicles, even if you are in the gap. Be vigilantly aware whenever you are approaching an intersection and look at the wheels of any cars waiting to turn to be sure they are not preparing to move. Find your exits in case they do begin to turn.

Another dangerous situation can occur when a car doesn’t see you as they change lanes. Avoid being next to cars if possible and make eye contact. This information is intended for your education and should not be taken as legal advice.
