Girl shot to death near Los Angeles motel

California residents know that they should be able to count on the law and law enforcement to help them stay safe. They should also be able to count on businesses to properly monitor their employees and the people who enter their premises in order to ensure other people are kept safe. When this does not happen, innocent people may be at risk of injury or even death.

The lack of such oversight is essentially what a mother and a father are claiming essentially caused the death of their daughter who was only 17 years old. The incident occured near a hospitality facility in Los Angeles. A man who has a felony conviction on his record and was reportedly out of custody on probation is said to have fired a gun, shooting the girl in the face and killing her.

The parents have filed a civil lawsuit against the motel indicating that the business failed to meet its responsibility to keep people on or near its premises safe. In addition to wrongful death, the suit accuses the motel business of premises liability, negligence with respect to its employment practices, loss of consortium and more.

When innocent people are injured or killed due to the negligence of another party, California residents might want to talk with an attorney. This may be a good way to learn what types of civil compensation could be available even when a person's life cannot be restored.
